Painted floor boards are never a pretty sight!
This lovely client approached us to bring out the natural, albeit masked, beauty of these floorboards. This was challenging due to the boards not being levelled, layers of thick paint and relatively narrow area to work in. However it is nothing our experienced technicians haven’t seen before and the results speak for themselves! The reason why rooms with paint and or unlevelled boards can be time consuming projects is that we start the sanding at a 45 degrees angle. This is the only way to actually strip off the paint whilst levelling the floor. The drawback to this is that it creates deep scratches at a 45 degrees angle! This is then incredibly time consuming to remove. Moreover, in a narrow room such as this the tight pace makes it even harder to manoeuvre the machinery.
The team began by running a coarse sand paper across the boards to reveal what we are working with. Typically, boards are painted for a reason! This is often to hide imperfections or defects within the boards – often wood worm! We did advise the client of this as we are firm believers in under promising and over delivering. Fortunately for this client, tbe boards beneath were in generally good condition. Some required replacement which was no issue. The client also wanted us to gap fill the floors. For this we used pine slivers to completely seal the flooring.
The client opted for a Bona Matt lacquer finish.
